Tennis Regionals – Round 2 Recap

Lubbock, TX – After a rain delay in Round 2 of the Regional Tennis Finals, Rose Cordes came out strong, securing a 6-4, 6-1 victory. She returned to the court later for her third-round match and dominated again in the Semifinals with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 win! With back-to-back victories, Rose has punched her ticket to the State Finals and will compete tomorrow morning for the Regional Championship title.

Laura Haynes and Travis Williams wrapped up their season in Round 2 of Mixed Doubles. They played hard but came up short against Canyon Randall, 6-0, 6-1.

In Boys Doubles, Gabe Cortez and Derrick Hunter faced off against West Plains and delivered a great performance. They secured the win in their second match with a 6-1, 6-1. However, in the third round, they were edged out by West Plains. The duo will return to the court tomorrow morning for one last shot at qualifying for the State Tournament.

Athletes who finish 1st, 2nd, or 3rd at Regionals will advance to the State Tournament next Thursday and Friday, May 15–16.
