Stephenville Blanks Brownwood 49-0

Brownwood, TX–Riding a five game winning streak in the series, the Jackets decided to extend it another game Friday night in the 4-4A district championship with a 49-0 win over Brownwood. Stephenville would score on its first two positions to take a 14-0 lead but that would be the totality of points for the remainder of the first half. The offense would face its first type of adversity on the season as the normally smooth running machine would seem out of sorts at times.

While the offense was trying to find it’s handle on the ball in the first half, the Jacket War Dog Defense would continue to flex its muscle as it has all season. The Brownwood offense would be held to negative total yards in the first half. Stephenville has now outscored its opponents 160-0 in the first quarter this season.

After halftime it was evident that the coaching staff helped the offense to get back on track as the Jackets would score touchdowns on its seven processions in the in the second half. Stephenville would finish with 201 yards rushing and 193 yards passing. Zyler McClendon would finish with 131 yards rushing and three touchdowns. QB Trot Jordan was 12/21 with three passing scores. Brighton Devivo, Caden Monk and Adan Jergins would combine for all the receptions.

The defense would continue another bizarre stat line. Coming into the game, Stephenville had intercepted its opponent three times in two straight games. Now make it three straight. The picks were gathered in by Cash Cribbs, Briar Floyd and Trenton Dennis. The Lions’ offense would finish with negative 15 yards rushing and 54 yards passing for a total of 39 yards.

Next up for Stephenville will be Senior Night back at Mike Copeland Field at Art Briles Stadium versus Burnet. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm.
