Jackets Earn Two Victories on Final Day of Leslie Hughes Invitational

Game 1
Jacket Comeback Propels Team to Victory over Lubbock Cooper Liberty
Stephenville—Mason Weyers would homer in the Jackets’ first at bat of the game that would lead to a 4-0 score after one inning. However, the Jackets would give up a 5 spot to the Patriots in the top of the third and find themselves trailing.
In the bottom of the 4th, Cade Whitehead would lead off with a single and would later score on a Weyers triple to tie the game. After a walk by Gunner Stone, Weyers would score on the Jayden Ferguson sac bunt to take the lead. Cutter Pack would then drive in Stone with a single to left. The lead was now 7-5 and it would prove to be the final score.
Owen Bohannon would get the start for Stephenville and go three innings. Jack Butchee, Everardo Campos and Gabe Elms would finish it out in relief. Campos is credited with the win as he was the pitcher of record when the Jackets mounted their comeback.
Stephenville is now 3-2-1 on the season.

Game 2
Jackets Rally to Win Despite 5-0 Early Deficit to Whitney
Stephenville—Gabe Elms would settle down after a shaky start giving up five runs (two earned) in the first inning on four hits and an intentional walk. The Senior would throw a complete game only allowing one more hit for the entirety of the contest.
Stephenville’s offense would peck away at the Whitney lead, scoring one in the first and two in the third inning. The Jackets would then explode for five in the fourth to achieve the comeback and hold on for the 8-5 victory.
Gunner Stone and Cutter Pack would each have two hits and two RBI’s. Also with RBI’s were Cade Whitehead, Tanner Smith and Cooper Rudd. Mason Weyers would hit his third triple of the season.
Coming out of the Leslie Hughes Invitational, Stephenville is now 4-2-1. Next up for the Jackets is the Crowley Tournament starting on March 6th.
