Reeling in Momentum: SHS Bass Club Secures Runner-Up Finish

The Stephenville High School Bass Club wrapped up its regular season in impressive fashion on April 11th at Lake Brownwood, bringing home a 2nd place team finish with a total weight of 37.63 pounds.

Competing against a stacked field of 125 teams representing 32 school districts, Stephenville anglers once again proved they belong among the top programs in the region.

Leading the way for the Yellowjackets was the duo of Sawyer King and Carter Burks, who placed 7th overall with five fish weighing 13.73 pounds, highlighted by an impressive big bass weighing 5.78 pounds.

Additional top finishes included:

  • 9th place – Axle Dixon and Rhyker Dixon with 11.97 pounds
  • 10th place – Kooper Key and Pecos Tally with 11.93 pounds
  • 29th place – Henry Osinga and Eli Lucero with 5.24 pounds (3 fish)
  • 43rd place – Rhett Reed and Jagger Raymond with 2.95 pounds
  • 45th place – Brent Borchardt and Tristin McMillan with 2.72 pounds

With the strong finish, Stephenville closed out the regular season in 3rd place overall with 490 points, just one point behind Aledo (491) and narrowly trailing Abilene Wylie, who claimed the top spot with 497 points.

Looking ahead, the Yellowjackets will send seven teams to Regionals on May 2nd at Possum Kingdom Lake:

  • 2nd place qualifier – Sawyer King / Carter Burks
  • 5th place qualifier – Axle Dixon / Rhyker Dixon
  • 27th place – Kooper Key / Pecos Tally
  • 28th place – Cutter Pack / Briar Floyd
  • 48th place – Henry Osinga / Eli Lucero
  • 56th place – Tristin McMillan / Brent Borchardt
  • 64th place – Rhett Reed / Jagger Raymond

With momentum on their side and strong representation heading into Regionals, the SHS Bass Club is poised to make more noise on the water as the postseason begins.
