Abilene, TX– Stephenville won for the 7th time in the last 8 meetings with Wylie, ruining their Homecoming with a 42-23 win on Friday night. In their most complete win of the season, the Jackets scored six touchdowns. They did so against a starting Bulldog defense that had been allowing five points per game.
The War Dog defense of Stephenville made several stops in the game against an explosive passing attack of Wylie. Stephenville forced the Bulldogs to settle for a field goal on the opening drive. Later, the defense foiled a fake field goal. They blocked a punt after a three-and-out and sealed the win with a late interception.

To counter the deficit, Wylie, trailing 21-10 at halftime, adjusted to stop the Jacket rushing attack in the third quarter. Consequently, Stephenville punted for the game’s only time. The Bulldogs would then move down the field and score to pull within 5. Stephenville, as they have done many times already this young season, faced some adversity. They did not flinch. As in the previous games, the Jackets had an answer. 14 unanswered points would give Stephenville some breathing room and they would cruise to the final score, splitting TDs late with Wylie.

Statistically, Zyler McClendon was a workhorse carrying the ball 26 times for 204 yards and a touchdown. Caleb Gleason would have three carries for 16 yards. QB Trot Jordan would have four carries for 34 yards and a score. He would also throw the ball for 18 completions on 25 attempts. He would convert 4 touchdowns to one interception. Caleb Monk pulled in 10 catches for 107 yards and a touchdown. Pecos Tally also had two catches for 25 yards and a TD. Austin Jergins had two touchdowns on his four grabs of 53 yards.
Julian Perez was credited with the interception.

The Jackets will keep their number one ranking in the state and go to 4-0 on the year. The final non-district game of the season will be against West Plains in Lubbock on Friday night. The contest will take place at Lubbock Cooper High with a 7pm kick.
Coffee with Coach at Barefoot Campus Outfitter will be moved to Thursday morning at 10am.
