Cordes Punches Ticket to State Tennis Tournament

Lubbock TX – Senior, Rose Cordes, punched her ticket to the State Tennis Tournament on Tuesday by earning the silver medal in the Regional Tennis Tournament held in Lubbock.  This is the second time in as may years Cordes has qualified for state.

Cordes defeated Divina Casuga (El Paso Austin) 6-0, 6-0, then defeated Alizaundra Guerrero (Fort Stockton) 6-0, 6-0, to advance to the semi-finals.  In the semi-final match she faced Hadlee House (Canyon) winning 6-1, 4-6, 4-0 (retired).  She played a close match in the final against Sarah Stelluti (Snyder) to capture second place, 3-6, 6-2, 3-6.

She will compete in the State Tournament May 7 & 8 in San Antonio.

The mixed doubles team of Olivia Cortez and Travis Williams also competed at the Regional Tournament.  They fell in the fist round to eventual silver medalist from Canyon.
