Bees Fall to Springtown in Game 3

Weatherford, TX – (Story by Pam Smith, Images by Tanisha Everett) The Stephenville Honeybees battled to the very end in Weatherford last night but came up short 4-6 in the final inning.  Springtown got on the board first with one run in the top of the first.  The Honeybees responded with two runs in the same inning when Presley Gaitan hit a fly ball to the left fielder and advanced to second on an error.  Macy Parker drew a walk, then Meg McGregor reached on an error, scoring Jazmyn Rodgers who courtesy ran for pitcher Gaitan.  Reese Haggard laid down a sacrifice bunt to plate Parker bringing the score to 2-1 in the bottom of the second.

 

The Lady Porcupines added runs in the second and third innings making the score 2-4, but a solo home run by Gaitan brought the Bees within one.  In the bottom of the fourth inning, Stephenville sat the Lady Porcupines in order when senior pitcher Gaitan fanned one, forced a grounded out to second baseman Mattie-Lynn Dunnam and caught them looking on a changeup to end the inning.

 

The Bees tied the game when senior center fielder Haggard ripped a triple down the left field line and later scored on a wild pitch to bring the score to 4-4.  The game remained tied until the top of the seventh when the Lady Porcupines scored two.  The Stephenville Honeybees were unable to score in the bottom of the inning seeing their season come to an end.

 

 

Overall the Bees finished the season with a 17-15-1 record. Shoutout to our seven seniors—Gaitan, Haggard, Rodgers, McGregor, Koedee Self, Ava Williamson, and Jayci Smith—who saw the field one last time as Honeybees. Each of them has made a lasting impact on the program over the past four years, and we couldn’t be more proud. To our underclassmen, we’re excited for what the future holds next season. And to our senior Honeybees, we wish you all the best in your future endeavors—once a Honeybee, always a Honeybee! 🐝💛
