Bees Even with Lady Porcupines, Deciding Game Today

Weatherford TX(Story by Pam Smith, Images by Tanisha Everett) Timely hitting and solid defense lifted Stephenville over the Lady Porcupines 9-4 in game one.  Game two came to the wire with the Bees falling 9-12.

Game 1

The Honeybees offense was led by Presley Gaitan and Marin Hill.  Each collected two hits and two runs batted in.  In addition to Gaitan and Hill,  Emma Villegas, Mattie-Lynn Dunnam and Ava Williams had one hit each and four RBI’s.

A productive four run second inning started with Kodi Thompson being hit by a pitch, Williams then singled advancing Thompson to third.  Hill then steps up to the plate, scoring Thompson on a single to the short-stop.  Villegas then singles on a bunt to plate Williams and advance Hill to third.  After Meg McGregor drew a walk, Gaitan singled on a fly ball to left field to score Hill.

The Bees added four more runs in the top of the fifth inning making the score 8-3.  Each team scored one more run to bring the final score to 9-4.

 

Gaitan started in the circle for Stephenville and Ava Williamson appeared in relief.

Game 2

Springtown out hit Stephenville 10 to 5 with the Lady Porcupines coming out on top to even the series.

Honeybee Softball

Reese Haggard led the Honeybees offensively going 2 for 4, driving in two and scoring one run.  Macy Parker and Mattie-Lynn Dunnam each collected one hit along with Gaitan who had an inside the park homerun.  Giving up six runs in the fifth proved hard to overcome, the Bees did however tie the game 9-9 in the bottom of the sixth.  In the top of the seventh, Stephenville surrendered three runs, putting Springtown on top 12-9.

The Honeybees face Springtown for the deciding Game 3 today at Weatherford College, first pitch is at 5:30.
