Yellow Jackets Advance with 32-18 Victory Over Port Isabel at State 7-on-7 Championships
The Stephenville Yellow Jackets are moving on.
Stephenville opened Day 2 of the Texas State 7-on-7 Championships with a convincing 32-18 victory over Port Isabel, using a balanced offensive attack and timely defensive stops to secure their spot in the next round.
The Jackets struck first as quarterback Jordan connected with Jergins for the opening touchdown before finding him again on the extra point to give Stephenville a 7-0 lead.
Port Isabel answered with a touchdown of its own but failed on the conversion, leaving the Jackets in front 7-6.
Stephenville responded immediately. Jordan found Monk for another touchdown, then connected with Tally on the extra point to extend the lead to 14-6.
The Yellow Jacket defense came up with one of the biggest plays of the first half when Burns intercepted a Port Isabel pass at the goal line with just over three minutes remaining, stopping a scoring opportunity and swinging momentum back to Stephenville.
The offense capitalized as Jordan hit Tally for another touchdown before halftime, giving the Jackets a 20-6 advantage despite the extra point falling incomplete.
Port Isabel battled back after the break with a touchdown to trim the lead to 20-12, but Stephenville never allowed the momentum to fully shift.
Jordan answered once again, finding Jhett B. for a touchdown to push the lead to 26-12. After another defensive stand forced a turnover on downs, the Jackets went back to work offensively.
Port Isabel scored once more to make it 26-18, but a holding penalty stalled the Chargers’ momentum. Stephenville then delivered the knockout punch as Jordan connected with Jhett B. at the goal line for his second touchdown of the game, extending the lead to 32-18 with just over a minute remaining.
The Yellow Jacket defense closed the door one final time, forcing another turnover to seal the victory.
