Yellow Jackets Edge Decatur 31-26 to Bounce Back at State 7-on-7 Championships

After dropping their opening game, the Stephenville Yellow Jackets bounced back Thursday at the 2026 State 7-on-7 Championships, battling past Decatur in a back-and-forth thriller, 31-26.
Stephenville struck first, taking an early 6-0 lead before Decatur answered just a minute later to tie the contest at 6-6.
Quarterback Jordan helped the Jackets regain momentum with a touchdown connection to Jergins, followed by a successful extra-point conversion to put Stephenville ahead 13-6. The Yellow Jacket defense came up with a key stop on the ensuing possession, giving the offense another opportunity.
Jordan capitalized quickly, finding Banuelosa for another touchdown. Although the extra-point attempt to Jergins was incomplete, Stephenville extended its lead to 18-12.

Decatur continued to battle and eventually evened the score at 19-19 heading into halftime, setting up a tense second half.
Receiving the opening possession after the break, the Jackets wasted little time reclaiming the lead. Jordan orchestrated another scoring drive to put Stephenville ahead 25-19. The defense answered once again with a crucial stop, allowing the offense to build additional separation.
Jordan later connected with Schindler for a touchdown that pushed the lead to 31-19. The extra-point attempt was unsuccessful, leaving the door open for Decatur.
With just over two minutes remaining, Decatur responded with a touchdown to trim the deficit to 31-26. However, the Yellow Jackets held firm the rest of the way, securing the five-point victory.
Jordan spread the ball around to multiple playmakers throughout the contest, connecting for touchdowns with Jergins, Banuelosa, and Schindler as Stephenville improved to 1-1 in pool play at the State 7-on-7 Championships.
