Stephenville, TX–Quick starts are becoming the norm for Stephenville as once again the Jackets jumped on an opponent from the get go. Stephenville scored seven plays into the game on their opening drive with a 14 yard TD pass from Trot Jordan to Jaden Lujan. La Vega would be forced into a three and out by the Wardog Defense on their first possession. On the ensuing punt for the Pirates, the Jackets’ special teams would block the kick and recover in the end zone for a touchdown. That quickly, it was 14-0.

The onslaught would not end there as the defense would get another stop and the Jacket offense was right back onto the field again. Three plays later, Stephenville would have their third touchdown with the electric 58 yard catch for the score from Caden Monk. Another strong defensive set of downs against La Vega would get the ball back to the Stephenville offense before the end of the opening quarter. Zyler McClendon would score on the run from 39 yards out and the three play drive would give the Jackets a 27-0 lead before the start of the 2nd quarter.

After La Vega got their first score of the game to pull within 27-7, the longest play of the night was about to occur. The Jackets were backed up to their own eight yard line following a penalty on the ensuing kick-off return. It didn’t matter. The offensive line would create an enormous seam in the middle of the Pirate defense and McClendon would go 92 yards on the TD run to bring the home crowd into a frenzy. McLendon added one more score in the second and a Jordan to Adan Jergins touchdown pass of 29 yards would close out the Jacket scoring in the half. Stephenville would take an impressive 47-14 lead at the intermission.

Stephenville would keep the momentum cooking in the second half by recovering an onside kick to begin the third quarter. Six plays later, Carter VanZandt would score from eight yards out and Stephenville would have a 54-14 lead. 8:58 was remaining in the third quarter after the score and lots of number two’s on the depth chart would come into the game for Stephenville. A Hud Price keeper on the zone read would go for a 28 yard touchdown and Rory McNeese would add a 30 yard field goal to close out the scoring for the Jackets. The final score would be 64-28.

Next up for the Jackets will be the long road trip to Longview on Friday night to take on Ruston, Louisiana. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm. After the Ruston contest, Stephenville will have a bye week before district begins.
